Title: | Fabrication of microfluidic cell culture platform | Authors: | Zayim Razina Seeni Syed | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering | Issue Date: | 2012 | Abstract: | Harnessing the ability to precisely manipulate small volumes of fluids and bioparticles, microfluidics is a powerful tool revolutionizing the possibility of replicating bench-top technologies onto a miniature chip-scale device. Since its origin in the past decade, microfluidics technology has been widely developed and researched; bringing along with it a vast number of promising applications in various fields of science. With the significant development in the field of microfluidics, different techniques for microfabrication have emerged shifting away from the dominant photolithography method. This new set of techniques known as soft lithography is under the close scrutiny of many researchers today for use in the fabrication of microfluidic devices as a result of its low cost and convenience. In this paper, the potential use of soft lithography techniques for the fabrication of a micropillar cell culture platform is investigated. Along with it, the suitability of using poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) as a substrate material for microfluidic devices, the detailed protocol of fabrication and the success of the micro-pillar cell culture platform is presented. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/50261 | Schools: | School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
