dc.description.abstractA resonator is a device or system that exhibits resonance or resonant behaviour and it naturally oscillates at some frequencies with greater amplitude than others. The corresponding frequency is the resonant frequency. The oscillation in a resonator can be either electromagnetic or mechanical. A cavity resonator is a hollow conductor blocked at both ends and along which an electromagnetic wave can be supported. It can be viewed as a waveguide short-circuited at both ends, which has the same function as microwave cavity. The cavity has an interior surface which reflects a wave of a specific frequency. When a wave that has a resonant with the cavity enters, it bounces back and forth within the cavity resonator, with low loss. As more wave energy enters the cavity, it combines with and reinforces the standing wave, increasing intensity. The structure is either hollow or filled with dielectric material. The resonator has the filtering applications. Mostly resonators are used as bandpass and bandstop filters. Meanwhile the resonator can be used as oscillators such as diode, feedback oscillators and transmission oscillators. The resonator can be frequency-selective limiters and dielectric resonator antenna element as well.en_US
