Title: | Design and fabrication of microfluidic chip | Authors: | Kunasagaran, Om priya. | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering | Issue Date: | 2012 | Abstract: | According to World Health Organization, an average of 3.4 million people dies due to water bone diseases each year. Most of the drinking water outbreaks are caused by insufficiencies or failures in water treatment. Moreover natural disasters such as tsunami, flood further increase the growth rate of water borne disease. Some causes of protozoal disease are due to Cryptosporidium. Hence, to save the world population, an effective and reliable method to trap and detect microbes such as Cryptosporidium is required. The use of microfluids are currently widely use in biology industry. They are commonly applied in the investigation of particles and cells. In this project we will introduce a microfluidic counting chip that would acquire the capability to produce an enhance observation and accurate count on the presence of cryptosporidium. This counting chip would aid to evaluate the performance of the pre-concentration system. An efficient and reliable water testing system is required to ensure safe consumption of water. In this case, we are able to save the world population from dying due to the negligence of having accuracy in checking the water quality for consumption. As a result, after sampling the water quality, effective steps can be thereby followed up quickly to make the water suitable for consumption. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/50993 | Schools: | School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
