Abstract: In this paper, a four-quadrant zero-voltage-switching converter for dc motor drives is proposed. From the voltage gain point of view, it is found that the proposed four-quadrant converter topologies are combination of the Buck, Boost and Buck-boost type converters. It offers zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) for all main switches and diodes, as well as unity device voltage and current stresses. This dc/dc converter can operate with higher efficiency at higher switching frequency. Therefore the power losses could be effectively reduced as well as the power transfer efficiency could be greatly increased.
