Abstract: Due to their unique size- and shape-dependent optical properties, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have attracted great interest in various applications, including optoelectronic nanodevices, catalysts, biosensor and nanomedcine, which in turn raise a demand on different shapes of AuNPs. In this paper, size-tunable NPs and multiple facet gold NPs are synthesized by using seeded growth method. Different surfactants such as Cetylpyridinium Chloride (CPC) and Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide (CTAB) were used to bind strongly to the surface of gold nucleus, thus lead to anisotropic growth. As a result, different shaped and sized gold nanoparticles have been finely tuned. In addition, NPs with high index facets have interesting electrical properties, which were used to study their application as electrochemical sensor.
