Min dialect folk song is a collective literature work that reflects the regional society. It is the profound wisdom of the residents and has great cultural and artistic value. Chinese marriage culture is formed, passed down and adapted through the course of civilization. The phenomenon in marriage culture represents the mindsets of the residents as well as the normality of the society. Some scholars have collated Min dialect folk songs among the region, while many have studied and analyze Chinese marriage culture. However, there are few who attempted to see Chinese marriage culture though Min dialect folk songs. Culture acts as a boundary to a society’s value and behavior. On the other hand, a society’s value and behavior also shape and create culture. Both elements coexist in a unique, inter-influential cycle, which is often represented and portrayed in folk songs. This study will attempt to collate and discuss the marriage cultural practices presented in Min dialect folk songs, and further analyze the social values and phenomenon that is reflected in these practices.
