Abstract: This paper investigates the correlation between team familiarity in a virtual team and trust, and the resulting team performance and satisfaction. It also examines the moderating factor of Face-to-Face interaction and its influence on the factors. A total of 6 hypotheses were formed and tested. The resulting findings show that team familiarity on a professional basis does increase trust amongst team members. However, professionally familiar virtual team members are not influenced to form a greater amount of trust through Face-to-Face interactions during the project duration. On the other hand, whilst social familiarity by itself contributes very little to trust formation, injecting Face-to-Face interactions into such a group does have a significant hand to play in forming greater trust. At the other end of the framework of this study, findings have confirmed that greater trust leads to higher team satisfaction levels, whereas team performance appears to not necessarily be guaranteed by the presence of trust within a virtual team. The possible causes behind these findings are discussed at the end of this study, along with numerous other interesting results with regards to the usage of virtual media within teams currently, as well as links between team performance and team satisfaction.
