dc.description.abstract | This paper examines the negotiations that take place for young Malay couples in their wedding preparations. The paper can be divided into three main portions. The first highlights the motivations behind the decisions made by my respondents. This especially looks at the influence of family in sustaining existing Malay traditions and rituals. The second part of this paper focuses on the existence of the hantaran1and how these young couples negotiate between tradition and rationality. The final aspect of my paper looks at a comparison between Western and Malay weddings and how these similarities or differences are significant in explaining the wedding as a phenomenon. | en_US |
