Abstract: Collaborative In-car Entertainment System is an intelligent system that provides music sharing function for the modern electric taxi that created and developed by TUM CREATE. TUM CREATE, a joint research programme, is developing innovative technologies, future transportation concepts and the application of electric vehicles to match the challenging requirements of the fast-growing tropical megacities. Existing in-car entertainment systems are only limited to listen to music through favourite radio stations or CDs provided by taxi driver. Therefore, the passengers can not choose those songs they like and play them. In this project, two android applications (one for driver, the other one for passengers) using Eclipse software are developed for passengers to choose their favourite songs, vote for them and enjoy them along the journey. A voting system is involved in this project which implemented through the following aspects: 1) application installed in passengers’ mobile phones displays a list of songs and allows passengers to vote for some songs they are interested in and send them to driver side by pressing the vote button; 2) application installed in driver’s tablet generates a ranking list based on the number of votes. Finally, driver will use the application to play the music according to the ranking list in taxi. The code was written using Java and XML language in Eclipse software with Android SDK. Overall, two applications are successful in providing music sharing function and communicating with each other through TCP connection within the same wireless network. They have been tested successfully using emulators and the real devices. An existing music API can provide more music for users to select so that by connecting to these APIs with a searching function, this In-car entertainment system will be more popular and user friendly. In addition, the application for passengers only has voting function now so it will be implemented with more entertainment functionalities in further improvements.
