Abstract: An automatic incident detection algorithm (AIDA) is commonly used to provide reliable information for expressway operators to manage incident occurrences timely and effectively. The common objective is to reduce the number of false alarms raised to an acceptable level while maintaining a high detection rate with a reasonably-short time lag to detect an incident. The existing algorithms possess limited transferability potential, and this issue has attracted much research interest to address the mixed performances of AIDAs applied on different sites.
