Abstract: This essay examines the different types of appropriation of fairy tales that Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm had employed, in addition to being a moral compass for children. It explores the possibility of a nationalistic reading of fairy tales and its significance in relation to the 19th century socio-political situation in Germany.
