Title: | Dual | Authors: | Ang, Kok Yeow | Keywords: | DRNTU::Visual arts and music | Issue Date: | 2013 | Abstract: | “Dual” is a series of photographs inspired by a personal desire to bring Nature to our attention. In this work, the artist pasted dead leaves on his body to state that he is part of Nature. He created a second character with similar facial features dressed as an everyday urban man. Both characters give hints of belonging to the same self. This project is a reflection of what the artist feels has happened to his environment, a place he was once very close. The project aims to reflect on and question the need for ever increasing urbanization. Are these desires and needs causing our living environment to be at risk? The artist, in his childhood, stayed in a kampong where he developed a sense of closeness with Nature. During his studies at ADM, his work has frequently explored the theme of the exploitation of Nature as well as power and control in the name of urbanization. His artwork employs staging of his subjects. In this work, he sets up the camera, marks his position, dresses himself with leaves and is blindly guided to the desired position to be photographed. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/52344 | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
