dc.description.abstract | Fascinated by the representations of ‘beautiful things’ and a ‘perfect life’, I embarked on this journey to find out more about Beauty and Life determined to penetrate beyond the superficial in order to find out how to live the ‘Beautiful Life’. Beauty, in this materialistic society today, has been construed to be regarded as something that is superficial and chased after by those who are frivolous. However, this has not always been so. Beauty was a ‘fashionable’ choice for philosophical discussions during previous centuries by philosophers such as David Hume and Immanuel Kant. In order to debunk the notion of Beauty as something that is shallow, I have chosen to study Life as a supplement to it. While Life is regarded as a serious philosophical topic as it exists in every aspect of existence, it is also treated lightly as humans sometimes ‘waste our lives’ away during our existence of living by not giving it every value that it deserves. The inspiration and focus of ‘A Beautiful Life’ is to find the small things in Life where Beauty exists. In hopes that one can learn the importance of appreciation and gratitude towards our existence so that we value Life and find happiness and satisfaction in it. Beauty and Life are abstract ideas that are not well understood. By breaking down the definition of each word to find a deeper meaning, there is a better understanding of the meaning of each word and when these two words are combined together, new meaning is materialized. The manifestations of my concept are to choose a few key concepts from the definition of Beauty and Life to reveal the final objective of the importance of appreciation and gratitude in our lives. | en_US |
