A three-dimensional computation of fluid-structure interaction in bioprosthetic heart valves using immersed membrane method

This work aims to apply Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Computational Structural Dynamics (CSD) to simulate the motions of bioprosthetic heart valves and the flow field around them. The major problem in the numerical simulation of heart valves is fluid-structure interaction between the valve leaflets and the surrounding blood flows. And due to the large displacement of heart valves, the flow phenomena during the dynamic opening and closing phases are highly complex. In this work, a novel and efficient immersed membrane method (IMM) is proposed for the simulation of fluid-structure interaction phenomena in heart valves.
