Abstract

Set in Singapore, where everything around us is constantly changing, an old Peranakan couple’s love

remains the same. Married for 45 years, they have been through some rough times together, but now May

finds herself alone in this struggle with Alzheimer’s disease as she watches the life, memories and traditions

she shared with Peter slip away. In an attempt to hold on to what they have lost, she decides that she will be

his sole caregiver and, like her husband the shoemaker, she tries to fix the problems. However, her

frustrations increase and her confidence shatter when she loses him at work. Finally, she decides it’s time to

make a choice.
