Abstract: The study of seismic phenomenon has a rich history that has been applied to a broad range of applications ranging from detecting to localizing and classifying moving or stationary targets of both natural origin, i.e., earthquakes and man-made nature, i.e., vehicular movement. Bearing estimation capability has received much attention and is critical in the development of seismic security systems for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions. In the context of bearing estimation, there is growing research towards applying array processing on multiple single-axis geophones and performing vector-sensor processing on single/multiple tri-axial geophones, with much attention given to the use of tri-axial geophone over the use of multiple single-axis geophones due to their ability to sense the 3D earth particle motion better.
