dc.description.abstractCrane rail have been playing critical role as foundation for container transportation around the world. Recent fractured rail was discovered after few months of operation after cleared with ultrasonic test. In this report, it analyses failure root causes of crane rail, through various characterization techniques, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometry and Optical Microscopy. It was determined that presence of martensite in heat affected zone link to hydrogen-induce cold crack was the agitation factor for fracture. To overcome this problem and increase service cycle for crane rail, recommendation for pre-weld and post-weld heat treatment to achieve uniform microstructure.en_US
