Abstract: This report examines the works of the propulsion system selection for the solar UAV and seeks to enhance the test methodology to obtain a more accurate classification of the performance of the propeller-motor combination. The theoretical sizing of the system is re-visited and a Turnigy G110 brushless outrunner motor was selected in place of the AXI 5345HD/18 brushless outrunner motor. The set-up was tested in the open circuit wind tunnel with similitude and blockage corrections. The proposed test matrix cannot be test completely due to heating issues of the motor. A post analysis was carried out and improvements are suggested in relation to the propeller, motor and test set-up for future conduct of the classification tests.
