Authors: Alasdair Muntz
Keywords: DRNTU::Engineering
Issue Date: 2013
Abstract: This is the Final Year Project Report for the project completed in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department at Nanyang Technological University over academic year 2012-2013. It was completed under the supervision of Professor Anand Krishna Asundi. The project investigated the use and limitations of the polariscope equipment used by the university, currently in the Metrology room of the COLE laboratory, in inspection and stress analysis of transparent plastic specimens. Injection moulded plastics were produced, photographed and analysed using the polariscope as well as additional data analysis using Microsoft Excel and Matlab, with comparisons performed with Ansys modelling software. The report contains discussions of the relevant concepts and technologies, as well as the methodologies for analysis, and discussion of results and effectiveness of the system against other techniques.
