Abstract: The objective of this final year project was to design and build a single frequency 1-micron fiber laser for the National Metrology Centre. At the end of the project, two 1-micron DBR fiber lasers were designed and built. The first laser gave an output with a ~1nm linewidth at the 1064nm wavelength, and thus single frequency. operation was not achieved. The second design demonstrated single frequency operation, lasing at around 1064nm with a linewidth of approximately 0.2nm.
