dc.description.abstractModelling and prediction of noise emitted from hard disk drives is presented in the thesis. It covers a detailed review on the vibration and noise sources in hard disk drives. Vibration model of the spindle/disks assembly-shaft-housing system and the voice coil motor/actuators assembly-shaft-housing system have been developed to predict vibration transmitted to the housing, respectively. Sound radiation from the cover is then studied. Necessary experiments have been carried out to verify the models. Potential areas of further research are finally discussed.en_US
