Tzu Shu Nü, the special female group in the early nineteenth to the early twentieth century of Canton Delta China, has been the concern of many scholars and researchers. Those discussions included the scholars from Western countries, mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southeast Asia such as Singapore. They had conducted various interviews, field investigations, collected the data and oral-history materials.Firstly, in order to re-integrate and rehabilitate the more complete historical features of Tzu Shu Nü, this thesis details the parties and scholars previous documents, discussions and ideas, and also tries to differentiate and analyze those information. Secondly, this thesis also attempts to give a new explanation of why Tzu Shu Nü as an independent female group could be emerged and developed in the early China patriarchal society. This thesis makes a detailed analysis about this female celibacy phenomenon in a modern feminist perspective way. Thus Tzu Shu Nü could be assumed to be the woman with feminist consciousness. And the sworn friendship - “JIN LAN JIE YI” between pairs of individuals may have lesbian practices in connection with sisterhoods.
