Abstract: Global energy demand has been on an upward increase for decades and it is expected to increase further in the months to come. There is a desperate need to start relying more on renewable energy to meet the demands of the growing economy. Countries all around the world has started to place an increased emphasis on renewable energy. As technology becomes more advanced and interactive, there has been an increased dependence where humans have started to become more reliant on technology. Technology has been a great force multiplier to mankind where it hugely increases the efficiency and effectiveness of doing things. Humans have therefore greatly relied on technology in their day to day tasks and activities. One of the greatest constraints of technology in mobile devices is its limited battery life. Due to complication of the mobile gadgets today, it requires a lot more battery life for it to function. This leads to battery of mobile devices being unable to sustain the charge for long durations. For some individuals, it is really awkward for them to be without their mobile devices for days when they are out camping as their battery would have gone flat. This project aims to create photovoltaic energy system for mobile devices. The student feels that there is a need to solve this pressing issue using renewable energy. By creating a photovoltaic energy system for mobile devices, individuals do not need to worry about their battery life and looking for an AC mains to charge their mobile phone, they could now rely on the photovoltaic energy system to charge their mobile phone using renewable energy. This project aims to prove the concept by showing that the photovoltaic energy system will be able to successfully charge the mobile phone. The photovoltaic energy system will consist of a photovoltaic panel, battery, charge controller, interface circuit and the Graphical User Interface. All circuits will be constructed from scratch so as to dig deeper into the foundations and fundamentals of engineering.
