Abstract: The investigation of the flow field generated by mechanical heart valve (MHV) is necessary to explain the relationship between the hemodynamic performance and hemolytic and thrombogenic complications in MHVs replacement. The flow dynamics in one cardiac cycle through a transparent bi-leaflet MHV model was investigated by Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique.
