Issue Date: 2013
Abstract: This project introduces the characteristics of photovoltaic (PV) panels and storage battery system in the Singapore distribution power system. Their impacts on the power grid are studied as well. The penetration of the PV and storage battery system in a small Singapore HDB distribution power network will be discussed. The effects on the power flow and voltage will be studied based on the comparison between the simulation results obtained before and after the penetration of the PV and storage battery system. The frequency regulation will be examined by performing the simulation of the PV and storage system in a two-area model using the concept of Virtual Power Plant (VPP). After that, the control mechanism of the storage battery will be designed with a local LFC algorithm. The actual frequency data of the Singapore power grid will be measured so as to test the control algorithm. The dynamic simulation of the mechanism will also be examined.
