Abstract: Our research seeks to test the popular belief that initial public offerings (IPOs) can generate abnormal returns with the help of data from past IPOs (i.e. are IPOs worthwhile investments?). This is done by trying to identify factors that might lead to a worthwhile investment in IPOs. The factors being considered are Market Sentiment; Price Earnings Ratio (PER); Business Group; Rate of Subscription; Size of Issue; Trustee Stock; Government Affiliation; and Lead Manager.
