These new work arrangements seemed to have evolved from the mid-1980 world recession. This study has been undertaken to examine, in particular, the changes in information systems (IS) employment structures, and to compare the U.S. experience with that of Singapore. Specifically, it will study the distribution of various forms of employment structures adopted in the IS job market, the trend toward the use of non-traditional IS job arrangements, and some correlates of these alternative employment structures. To answer these questions, content analysis has been adopted as a method to extract relevant information from IS job advertisements. The results indicated that while the traditional employment arrangement is still prevalent in both the U.S. and Singapore, there is indeed a noticeable trend toward the use of non-traditional employment arrangements in the U.S. However, Singapore has not shown significant use of these non-traditional work arrangements.
