Issue Date: 1994
Abstract: The objective of the project is to determine the extent of creative accounting activities being practised in Singapore. The scope of the project covers companies listed in the Stock Exchange of Singapore, which are generally more prone to creative accounting activities. An easy-to-do methodology is used : reVIewmg literature, sending questionnaires, conducting interviews, analysing financial reports, and drawing conclusions. Lastly, creative accounting techniques are used on financial statements of a manufacturing company to illustrate its effects. Based on the research findings, there is little evidence to support the view that creative accounting is widely used in Singapore. However, the possibility that creative accounting is being practised in Singapore is not ruled out altogether.
