Abstract: We have seen an emergence of multinational companies in the Asia Pacific region in this decade of the 1990s. The globalisation of business activities and the economic boom in this region are two main reasons that have contributed to this phenomenon. With this expansion of the global economy, new challenges, especially the issue of expatriation, are raised for the role of human resource management. An attractive compensation and benefits package would provide one of the many incentives in drawing this pool of expertise into the region.
