Title: ASEAN-5 and China : trade competitors?
Authors: Lim Dyi Chang
Keywords: DRNTU::Business::General::Economic and business aspects
Issue Date: 1997
Abstract: International trade has long been recognised as an important engine of economic growth. The rapid growth of East-Asian economies in view of their open-door policies and export-led industrialisation strategies further highlighted the crucial role of trade. Studies on trade competition have therefore gained much respect from both academicians and policy makers. Many investigations had been done on the nature and extent of shift of export comparative advantage from Japan to the NICs and from the NICs to the ASEAN nations. Since the liberalisation of the Chinese economy, every country in the region is apprehensive of the huge economic potential of this awakening dragon. There is hence no better time than now that we should focus our attention on the intricate trade relationships between the ASEAN nations and China.
