Abstract: Being a small island republic, Singapore is vulnerable to various external forces. One such forces is our high reliance on imports for food. Our government have already taken steps to mitigate this problem by setting up agrotechnology parks using modern high-tech farming techniques for various types of food production. We are also one of the first countries to commercialize aeroponics farming. With these measures, our reliance on food imports will no doubt decrease. However, Singapore is largely an urban city and land is scarce here. Thus, there is a limit on these measures due to land constraint. Our emphasis on economic growth does not permit us to sacrifice other land uses such as commercial, industrial etc. for agriculture. This project aims to provide an alternative solution: Urban agriculture, i.e. using existing urban space for agriculture. Specifically, we are examining the possibility of rooftop aeroponics farming as a form of urban agriculture for Singapore.
