Abstract: Information kiosks, which are more commonly identified with Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), have come a long way since they first made their appearance in the early eighties. Today, kiosks are no longer dumb machines that dispense things according to a set of structured procedures. With the incorporation of highspeed multi-media processors, they are now seen as the new wave of technological products that can propel businesses into the next century. In Singapore, the government has committed resources under the IT2000 plan to turn the island into an intelligent hub. Part of the plan includes setting up a National Information Infrastructure (Nil). The latter will become the platform for propagating electronic commerce. Information Kiosks are therefore expected to play an important role in the immediate future and beyond.
