Issue Date: 2011
Abstract: Electrical manipulation of cells such as electrofusion, electroporation and electrophoresis has been a great interest in biomedical engineering industry. There have been many technologies applied to induce and analyze the cell-to-cell fusion and material transfer in various types of cells including bacteria, yeast, plant and mammalian cells. Cell fusion can occur naturally in certain types of cells as well as can be induced by chemical or electro-mechanical engineering processes. It plays an important role in studies of cellular therapy, cancer immunotherapy, antibody production in immunology, hybridomas, gene expression and gene mapping etc.
