Title: | Performance study of routing protocols for wireless sensor network applications - 1 | Authors: | Heng, Tian Hao | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering::Computer science and engineering | Issue Date: | 2014 | Abstract: | The importance of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) has increased over the years with many applications developed in areas of healthcare monitoring, environment monitoring, and various applications in the military. However, WSN face problems in energy efficiency and data transmission, with the need of a reliable routing protocol that allows efficient routing of data packets from nodes to a sink. This report aims to study the performance of two routing protocols on the Contiki Operating System; the Contiki Collect protocol built on the Contiki OS’s lightweight Rime stack and the ContikiRPL protocol. Experiments were conducted to retrieve a set of performance metrics to determine the advantages of each protocol. A program was created to summarize the data collected to produce the route establishment time, packet delivery ratio and the packet delay parameters for one, two and three hops. Test results were then analysed and recommendations for future works were given. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/58999 | Schools: | School of Computer Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
