What happens when we are to get rid of the things that we no longer want? Why do we throw them and what happens to them after they are being disposed? Where do they go? These are some of the questions that I would ask myself when I see a large amount of waste being disposed. Wasted Opportunities is a journey of discovering the systems that revolve around waste. It aims to explore and transform people’s perception of waste from a negative to a positive one, so as to allow them to see it as a form of resource. Instead of looking at waste as a rejected product of our consumption, they would see it as an opportunity of resources. The characteristics of waste are said to be unattractive and unwanted and this is the perception that is being imparted on the material. However, Glitch Art has challenged the notion of beauty and aesthetics through its imperfections and malfunctions and is now widely recognised as a form of aesthetics. Using Glitch Art as a tool of communication, the project seeks for us to reflect on our thoughts and actions towards waste as well as to transform our perception of waste into a positive one. This will be done by transforming documented images of waste into aesthetically pleasing works of art using both prints and collected textile waste.en_US
