Abstract: One of the most pressing problems facing today's hospitality industry is the shortage of trained and qualified manpower. In view of the growing importance of tourism to the Singapore economy, this report will aim to closely examine this problem, in both local and regional contexts. It then proceeds to explore the possibility of alleviating the problem, at least in the staffing of middle-level managers, through the starting of a Hospitality and Tourism Management Bachelor Degree Programme m local university. The report concludes with recommendations as to how a local university might structure such a course so as to best meet the needs of the local hospitality industry.
