Title: | Citation counting tool for online academic databases | Authors: | Zhao, Chen | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering::Computer science and engineering | Issue Date: | 2014 | Abstract: | In the field of, but not limited to, computer science related studies and publications, citation records and counts are significant for the evaluation of researchers and corresponding conferences. However, such key is contorted by many problems including missing, erroneous or irrelevant citation records among major online academic databases, such like Web of Science (WoS), Scopus, Google Scholar, CiteSeer and so on. In addition, many computer scientists believe that there is a traditional bias toward journals compared to conference papers and their authors, as stated by Bjorn De Sutter and Aaron Van Den Oord in their research paper “To be or not to be cited in computer science.” In order to measure and study the coverage and correctness of citation records among those well-known online databases, the authors of previously mentioned paper had developed a tool for querying the data warehouses and performing relevant experiments. Whereas the actual source code was not provided in the paper. The purpose of this project is to replicate the citation counting tool partially according to descriptions in the research study and perform similar experiments. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/59983 | Schools: | School of Computer Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
