Title: | Water sustainability (ginkgo) | Authors: | Toh, Willy Guan Long | Keywords: | DRNTU::Visual arts and music | Issue Date: | 2014 | Abstract: | Singapore has been undergoing sustainable development since the 1990s through achieving a more dynamic economy and a better quality living environment for Singaporeans. Managing energy and water consumption were key strategies in helping Singaporeans save cost and maintain a well-balanced standard of living. Protecting the environment has become integral towards Singapore’s plan and development as an attractive city towards the world. By taking the same objective from the current sustainable plan of our nation, it is necessary to take full consideration towards designing for our lifestyle, environment and economy. This project aims to develop a new concept that allows rainwater collection for public multi-storey car parks while providing an alternate water source for car washing applications for car owners. Through my journey in search of research and development, my concept aims to provide clean water meant for car washing purposes through the collective harvesting and filtration of rain in Singapore. By presenting how the water filtration process works, it also seeks to provide an educational and experimental value for future exploratory possibilities. The design raises the awareness of how we are all part of the cycle of life, where nature and human beings are deeply interconnected and dependent upon each other. Combining design and technology, Ginkgo hopes to establish and maintain a sustainable relationship between ecology, water supply and our contemporary lifestyles. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/60051 | Schools: | School of Art, Design and Media | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
