Abstract: Light Emitting Diode (LED) has been to replacing conventional lights in this society. This is because LED has many advantages over conventional lights. Some examples include longer lifespan, better energy efficiency and more ecologically friendly. As the society progresses towards the environmentally friendly direction, it is necessary to look into the sustainability of every technology. It is therefore crucial to maximize the lifespan of each high power LED in a module to reduce waste. The aim of this project is to maximize the lifespan of all the LEDs in a module by balancing out the load when there are degraded LEDs, without compromising much of the overall brightness. Degraded LEDs will be delivered less power while healthy LEDs will be given increased load. As such, the lifespan of all the LEDs in the module would be approximately the same. Thus, reducing the waste of replacing all the LEDs when one or a few of them are degraded and affect the overall brightness. A circuit that was previously designed was improved to ensure its functionality. Software simulation was done on the improved circuit before the circuit is built on a breadboard. The working circuit was fabricated into a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) where the final testing was done. The data from the final testing was compared with data from a standard circuit to determine its effectiveness in maintaining the overall brightness when LEDs were degraded. It was clear that the overall brightness of designed circuit had dropped significantly less than that of a standard circuit. From the current and voltage data, load of degraded LED had decreased. LED modules operate with this product would have longer lifespan while keeping up its overall brightness. The potential of commercializing this product is very high. There are many areas where the product can be improved upon to make a possible investment.
