Issue Date: 2014
Abstract: The Smart Grid has become a promising emerging power grid for power transmission and distribution. Smart Grid is a modern power grid that using analog or digital information and communication technologies to collect and process information, such as information about the behavior of suppliers and consumers. Using automation to increase the efficiency, reliability, economic as well as sustainability of the production, transmission and using electricity. However, the security of the communication networks for the smart grid should be provided in order to prevent any damages of the power transmission and distribution systems. In this project, the student will investigate various security issues of ZigBee technology which is widely using in the home area smart grid communication systems. The current solutions on cyber security will be evaluated and a new proposal to enhance the security functionality will be proposed for ZigBee communication protocol.
