Title: | Intelligent elderly care II | Authors: | Weong, Yen Teng | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering | Issue Date: | 2014 | Abstract: | With the number of cases of dementia set to increase in numbers in the coming years, with Singapore's greying population on the rise and the number of young citizens to support and look after the an elderly decreasing. The industry for silver care is in the market as developers are looking into ways to incorporate technology into elderly care to improve and assist caregivers in looking after the needs of the elderly. In this final year project, I would be developing a prototype for intelligent elderly care targeting at elderly with some degree of dementia. My focus of the project is to allow caregivers the ability to know the whereabouts of the elderly when they leave the house alone in real-time. Hence, a GPS tracking device capable of transmitting real-time latitude and longitude data over to a web server where the exact location of the elderly would be marked on a Google map. The latitude and longitude data would also be stored on a database server. In addition to that, an exit/entry home notification system is also in place acting as a pre-safety measure to inform caregivers that elderly has left the premise of the home. By doing so, it allows the dementia elderly to go about their daily routine and maintain their social activities and at the same time reduce stress on the caregiver to constantly follow them around giving both parties their needed space. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/60485 | Schools: | School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
