Abstract: Hybrid electrochemical biosensors incorporated with biological macromolecules (e.g., proteins, enzymes, antibodies, receptors, peptides, DNA, etc.) with controlled structures that can preserves their biological activity have received considerable attention worldwide. In this project, we will design a new class of freestanding electrodes with nanoscale electrocatalyst loaded in the 3D network formed by graphene nanosheets, which exhibit large active surface areas and abundant functional groups for the efficient loading of nanocatalyst. We will examine the performance of the electrodes in detecting model electroactive analytes such as glucose and correlate the structure of nanocatalyst with their performance. The potential use of the electrode in detecting cancer biomarkers will also be explored.
