Abstract: This report summarizes work done by author for final year project and describes work procedure in details. The project title is Automatic Japanese License Plate Recognition at Car Park Entrance. Due to time constrain and source limitation, the focus of this project is set to be recognizing Japanese characters correctly. The LIBSVM library is learned and applied to classifier different characters. Author prepared the datasets and followed sequential steps in LIBSVM to train and test Japanese characters. Finally, different Japanese characters can be identified correctly with accuracy of 92%. Recommendations for the project are given in the end for future research purpose. During the project implementation, Author practiced programming skills and improved analytical and problem solving skills.
