Title: | Electro-taichi stimulator | Authors: | Chan, Yee Hwa | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering | Issue Date: | 2014 | Abstract: | Taichi is a set of soft and slow martial art movements that promotes the flow of “Qi” throughout the body. It has healing effects on both physical and mental health problems. Taichi movements consist of series of upper and lower limbs’ movements that prevent or improve joint stiffness, muscle pain, arthritis, cardiovascular problems and even delay aging process. Moreover, Taichi is also a meditative exercise that helps in handling depression, anxiety and stress. A pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) of 7.83Hz and 15Hz stimulation are used to produce the similar effect of Taichi. PEMF stimulation is known to have healing effect on various diseases such as arthritis, sprain and fractures, heart disease and so on. It is known that 7.83Hz brainwaves are the basic requirement for physical and mental health. It is noted that 7.83Hz is the brainwaves frequency generated during deep meditation. While 15Hz brainwaves represent alertness, non-agitated brain state and promote relaxation. This project designs and builds the hardware for PEMF stimulation of 7.83 Hz and 15 Hz. PEMF stimulations of the selected frequencies will mimic the healing effects of Taichi training. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/61096 | Schools: | School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
