Abstract: This final year project was to design and develop an Omni-directional antenna that is able to receive and transmit signals which are in frequency range from 2MHz to 30MHz. This antenna was to be placed at most 1 metre above the rooftop of a 19 metre tall building. In addition, the radiation angle should be as close to the horizontal axis of the antenna as possible. This was a challenging project due to the many restrictions set by the clients. A software antenna simulator named FEKO was used throughout this whole course of final year project. Some of the results were then compared with another software antenna simulator called the Ansoft High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) verifications. Due to the time limitation and complexity of this project, hardware fabrications were not required in our scope of project. However, extensive simulations were needed on the effects of ground plane and also modifications of basic dipole antenna. Many modifications were being simulated to obtain a better performance antenna and some of these modifications include bending of dipoles, adjusting the flare angle of bow-tie dipole and changing sharp corners of bow-tie dipole to round corners. With these, it contributed to the guidelines on developing a better antenna for the use of future students in this scope of research.
