Android tourist translator (Indonesian to English)

Abstract

Tourism is an industry that is booming and rapidly growing around the world. For some countries, this industry is essential for economic growth. Countries all around the world are taking extra measures and making greater efforts to promote tourism.

Tourists in a foreign country often have problems communicating with the locals due to language differences. Although there are books that a person may buy to help them communicate with the locals their native language, this solution may seem cumbersome to some. Also, there may be pronunciation errors when trying to communicate in a language that one is not familiar with.

Android is one of the world’s most popular and versatile mobile operating software. It is used by many people around the world and it is easy to use. Its popularity is growing and more people are starting to develop applications for this operating system.

By merging these two industries, this project intends to build a simple language translator for the Android platform. This project aims translate commonly used phrases into the local language. For this project, the source language will be Indonesian while the target language will be English.
