All along, there has been a difference between Singapore Mandarin and Mainland China Mandarin, and the reason behind is very much due to Singapore‟s history and its linguistics situation. In the early days, Singapore is one of the work locations chosen by Overseas Chinese of different dialects, hence resulting in a number of dialect users in Singapore. In addition, as Singapore was once under British colonial ruling, English has also become one of Singapore‟s languages. All these factors lead to the formation of Singapore's multi-lingual situation. However, as Singapore develops, the status of different languages started to change, and the changes were due to its language policy. The bilingual education policy requires all Singaporeans to learn two languages from young, and hence many Singaporeans grew to be bilinguals. Among the languages, English and Mandarin turned out to be the higher frequency of usage among Singaporeans. But as both languages functions on different language system, it is unavoidable that both languages will affect each other in the process of bilingual language acquisition. This thesis aims to find out the understanding of Singapore Chinese in Double Object Constructions. The research selected (Chinese) ditransitive verbs with higher frequency in Singapore Mandarin, and investigate the degree of understanding of Singapore Chinese in Double Object Constructions through questionnaire. The results of the survey showed that Singapore Mandarin is affected by Singapore English to a certain extent. In addition, Singapore English has yet to reach the same level as Standard English.
