Authors: Kwan, Julia Jia Yi
Keywords: DRNTU::Social sciences
Issue Date: 2014
Abstract: In recent years, Generation Y hawkers in Singapore have been given more attention in the media because of the lack of young people entering the trade due to the common perceptions of the job. This paper will attempt to understand how they see themselves, especially in a profession where they are considered the minority. Through in-depth interviews with Generation Y hawkers, this paper seeks to explore themes of culinary prejudice and performance of the Generation Y hawker role in Singapore.
