dc.description.abstractThis Project is to study the prevailing technology available to automated checkout for shopping and to design an advanced system to improve the current shopping checkout method in Singapore. Several existing and new labeling, scanning and point-of-sale (P.0.S) technologies were investigated and analyzed to understand their underlying principles and the advantages and disadvantages in application to such a system. RFID technology, a technology of growing importance and acceptance was identified to be the best suited and easy to implement technology on which such an automated checkout system can be based on.en_US
