dc.description.abstract | This project titled The Embodiment of Perfection examine tools and products used in various cultures and at different times to achieve beauty standards and explores the different rationales behind such beauty standards. Such objects, tools or products, may leave significant side effects when used on the human body, even if some of them are still used daily. The Embodiment of Perfection highlights the risks people, especially women, have to face to reach the ultimate perfection in beauty. Scientific studies (Feng, 2002) have shown that humans are inherently attracted to beautiful things, making it important for both men and women to make themselves visually appealing to others. Today, more people seeking their own ideal beauty and perfection are undergoing body modifications according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, making it a distinct difference from the ancient civilizations where beauty standards not only signified the ideals at that point in time, but symbolize the different societal standings of those who have gone through them as well (Andriani, 2012). | en_US |
